5. Creating a Top 100 Site
This is reciprocal linking by any other name. The benefit to you
as the site who owns the relevant Top 100 (or however many) Sites
List will be obvious. As every other site, directly related and
targeted to your content, signs up hoping to be voted top by
their visitors and get more traffic, you suddenly get traffic.
You do send visitors back, of course, but mostly to those who are
deserving -- the ones near the top of the list who brought the
traffic to you. Fair deal if you ask me, so OK on with the HOW.
All of this can be done for free and about the only decision you
have to make here is whether you install a CGI script to handle
it yourself (recommended) or you use a third-party service.
My first stop for CGI scripts is always the CGI Resource Index.

Among the scripts on offer, and indeed the one which most of the
existing sites use, so we can reckon it is a good bet, is the

Now, if you are technophobic, try one of the following remotely
hosted options. There may be another benefit if they list your
topsite anywhere on their main site (check to find out), as this
may bring you a few adittional submissions:

Let webmasters join your Top Sites so that users can vote for the
best site, as well as drive more traffic to your site.

Once it is running, put prominent links to it from your main
pages, ensure that you have some guidelines so that only relevant
and related sites sign up. Invite suitable sites to list
themselves, get promoting! Get traffic!
